While credit repair might be a good idea, you should also check to see which kind of help you can get even with your current credit information. Creditors are different and the way the will look at your credit history to determine your creditworthiness is also different.
This means that some of them might consider your income versus your bill paying ability. Other creditors will judge you based on the last few years and not on the whole duration of the report.
All you have to do is to make a commitment and let your creditor help you to work out a repayment plan which you can stick to. If you manage to get a loan make sure that you also get credit advice or counselling to help you manage credit issues. Moreover, you should still work on ways of improving your credit report by clearing any pending bills or loan repayments.
